Twister

This is what my small beautiful hometown of Windsor, Colorado looks like after a devestating tornado hit on Thursday May 22nd. My parents, Aunt and Uncle, my brothers and their families all live there. Thank you to those who called in concern for my family... they are all okay and safe! What a blessing! After golf-ball sized hail (this is actually common), they were warned of a tornado... which is actually pretty common this time of year too... however, in the 40 years my family has lived there, a tornado has never touched down. Man do I remember all those tornando drills in school- we thought it was so LAME. Luckily, my nephew and nieces get the same drills, and on Thursday, they just thought it was another practice. Several famililes were crammed into my parents' basement. Dad prayed for all, especially for their children, who were not with them, but in lock down in the schools. I can't help but cry when I think of going through something like that and not having my babies with me! My sister-in-law, Nikki, was out to lunch at a restaurant and they shoved all the people into a freezer... what?...what about the bathroom? I think I'd rather crouch down in a stinky bathroom stall than take the chance of debri falling in front of that freezer door and trapping us in there! As of last night, they still had no power. People are staying at my parents' home and they are putting the generator, candles, batteries, food and everything else to good use. Wow... this is crazy, I can't help but think that I'm also being given a wake-up call to BE PREPARED! Hey, I do have our year supply of toilet paper... you gotta start somewhere. Even with damaged houses and totalled cars, I'm tellin' ya, my heart is full of gratitude for the protection of my family! Ryan and Saedi are going out this week while Ken and I are at Girls Camp, but we'll go out in a couple of weeks.
We love you all there in Windsor!

If you look close you can see the "pee tree" I once (and only once) pee'd on. I will miss that tree. Maybe now it's in the toothpick factory, maybe it's the one you're using in your mouth. cc

Wow, I guess I haven't been checking the news. I didn't even know that happened. I am so glad that your family is ok. That would be so scary not to have the kids with you when something like that happened. Let's just keep praying that nothing ever happens.
I know when you read this camp will be over so I hope you had a great time given the circumstances. I'm glad that your family was prepared I think that we would be pretty sad if we had to live off our measley storage I guess this is a lesson to all of us you just never know when you will need it.

I'm hoping to get the Stake together to do hygiene kits for all the people who have been hit with these disasters. It seems like they're nonstop! I know everybody hates doing them, but it's different when you personally know people that need them. I'm so glad your family is safe.
Yeah year supply! :)

Hello Deana-it is your long lost friend! you know, camp, hobby lobby! Found your blog & love it. I am not up on my current events and didn't even realize the Tornado was in your town. I am glad that all of your fam is well. I too remember the drills in school. You know that math book over your head will save your life!! :0) I also remember that whenever the sirens would sound the first thing we would do is run to the middle of the street to see if we could see the twister! That was our safety! Crazy that it actually was in your town. It never seems like it is in your town, ya know. We saw the one that tore through Denver in the early 90s. and that was crazy! Have fun on your vacation.

Way to plug humanitarian work Renae! Good Job!
